BONNIE SHAW

 

Sheffield born, Bonnie Shaw began her musical career at the age of four with piano lessons from the late Margot Pacey, composer and accompanist to Kathleen Ferrier.   During her school career she added flute, 'cello and voice to her repertoire and has most recently completed a degree in Music at NewcastleUniversity, studying voice with Richard Wistreich.   She will return to the university later this year to follow a course of postgraduate study.

 

Her early vocal development was nurtured by acclaimed vocal coach Vivien Pike and she sang for a number of years with Vivien's choir Cantores Novae.   She has experienced a wide range of exciting and challenging performance opportunities including playing 'cello with the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra, touring Slovenia with the Sheffield Girls' Choir, singing with Lesley Garrett in Sheffield's City Hall and as a jazz soloist in the Schools Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

 

Still based in Newcastle, Bonnie continues to develop her career as a professional soloist alongside working at English Martyrs' Primary School.   Her recent choral performances have included Britten's War Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No.8 at The Sage Gateshead, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem and Britten’s St. Nicolas.   Her engagements as a soloist include performances with Belinda Sykes' medieval music ensemble Joglaresa at The Sage Gateshead, in J. S. Bach's B Minor Mass with the Bishopwearmouth Choral Society in Sunderland and in Vivaldi’s Gloria, Haydn’s Little Organ Mass and Nelson Mass with the All Saints' Chamber Choir, Gosforth.
