HEDVIG ERIKSSON

Hevig Eriksson, soprano, was born in Sweden, but an interest in early music brought her to London where she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and started her career as a free-lance singer. She now lives in Sweden again, but comes back to sing in this country regularly. She has performed in Newcastle several times before, and is glad to be here again to sing with the Bach Choir in King's Hall. Hedvig sings in concerts all over Europe, and her repertoire ranges from medieval through to contemporary music. Recent solo appearances have included Handel's Judas Maccabaeus and Silete Venti, Bach’s Mass in B minor, and. Mozart's Mass in C minor. The nearest future will include performances of some of Bach's greatest works including St. Matthew Passion, St John Passion and the Christmas Oratorio. As a member of The Private Music Hedvig develops a particular interest in 17th and early 18th century music. The group won the Early Music Network Young Artists’ Competition in 1999, and has since then performed in the Festivals of York, Bath, Spitalfields and Chester and also toured to Sweden, Northern Ireland and The Netherlands. The Private Music has appeared several times on BBC Radio 3 and recently recorded a programme of music by Handel which will be broadcasted later this autumn. She has also worked with Philip Pickett and his New London Consort, the Rose Consort of Viols, Trinity Baroque, the Kantrovich Ensemble and Dunedin Consort.
