JAMES GEER

 

Born in Sussex, James Geer studied at Magdalen College, Oxford University, where he sang as an Academical Clerk in the College Choir, at Trinity College of Music, and on the Opera Course  of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, graduating in 2008. While at college James won numerous scholarships and competitions including the Morag Noble Award, The Catto Award and the Principal’s Award for outstanding student performance of the year.

 

After graduating, James Geer was invited to become a Britten/Pears Scholar, and has appeared in numerous concerts at the Snape Maltings, notably as Male Chorus The Rape of Lucretia, conducted by David Parry and Mathan Athalia, conducted by Richard Egarr. He also appeared at the 2009 Snape Easter Festival singing the Mozart Requiem, conducted by Bernard Labadie.

 

At Trinity College, James Geer’s roles included Duncan in Diana Burrelll’s The Albatross,  Singer Beatrice Cenci, The Shepherd Oedipus Rex and St Chavez Four Saints in Three Acts, whilst at the RSAMD, he sang Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Gonzalves L’Heure Espagnol and Monsieur Triquet Eugene Onegin. Roles elsewhere have included Acis Acis and Galatea for Edinburgh Studio Opera and Frederic The Pirates of Penzance for Haddo House Opera.

 

Concert engagements have included L’Aumonier Les Dialogues des Carmelites with Stéphane Denève and the RSNO, Messiah for The Really Big Chorus at the Royal Albert Hall, London, and The Sailor Dido and Aeneas with Nicholas McGeegan and the ECO, both at the Edinburgh International Festival, as well as a wide range of performances with choral societes throughout the UK. He also sang Britten’s Six Hölderlin Fragments at this years’ Aldeburgh Festival with pianist Malcolm Martineau, broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
