KITTY WHATELY

KITTY WHATELY, mezzo soprano, was born in London, and studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She is currently studying with Tim Evans Jones at the Royal College of Music International Opera School, supported by the Aldama Scholarship, where she has played Eduige Rodelinda in March 2011, and is to play Dorabella Cosi Fan Tutte in June 2011, and where she was awarded first prize in both the Ted Moss and Bertha Taylor-Stach lieder prize and the Joan Chissell Schumann competitions. She performed the role of Edith in the Classical Opera Company’s Alfred at the King’s Place, Cherubino Marriage of Figaro with Co-Opera Co, and has performed many roles with Beds Youth Opera, including Nancy Albert Herring, Juno Semele, Second Lady Magic Flute, and Dorabella Cosi fan Tutte.
She was the winner of the Royal Overseas League Award for Singers in memory of Pamela Faulkner in February 2011, and a finalist in the Les Azuriales International Singing Competition in Nice in 2010. Kitty sang in the Glyndebourne chorus for two years and covered the singing role of a nun in the world premier of Peter Etvos' Love and Other Demons there. She performed at Buxton Festival Opera, where she covered the role of Idamante in Idomeneo and sang in the chorus. She is a Samling Scholar, having participated in a workshop week with Sir Thomas Allen and Roger Vignoles last November. Future plans include playing Kate Owen Wingrave at Nuremberg International Chamber Music Festival and singing the Samling 15th anniversary showcase concert at the Wigmore Hall.
