REBECCA CHELLAPPAH

Rebecca is a mezzo soprano from Singapore studying at the Royal Northern College of Music with Barbara Robotham. In 2006 she was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in vocal performance and is currently working towards her Masters degree.

 She is a 2005 and 2006 recipient of the National Arts Council of Singapore's overseas bursary and also the 2007 recipient of the Eunice Pettigrew Prize for mezzo sopranos at the RNCM.

As a Young Artist with the Singapore Lyric Opera she appeared in a wide range of opera scenes, and in 2004 was Praskowia in Léhar's The Merry Widow. She has given song recitals in Singapore and Malaysia, and was a finalist in the 2005 Festa Canzone International Art Song Competition.

In addition to a variety of roles in opera scenes, her opera appearances at RNCM include Mrs. Pasek in The Cunning Little Vixen by Janacek, Mrs. Peachum in Kurt Weilll's Threepenny Opera and Filipyvena in Eugene Onegin. She will next perform the role of Marcellina in the RNCM December production of The Marriage of Figaro. Her recent oratorio performances include Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Mozart's Requiem, Mozart's Solemn Vespers, Karl Jenkin's The Armed Man and Rossini's Stabat Mater.

Rebecca studies at the RNCM with the kind assistance of bursaries from The Charles and Else Sykes Trust and the National Arts Council of Singapore.
