SAM MORRISON

 

Sam Morrison, baritone, was born in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, where he gained his initial experience in opera whilst still at school under the auspices of the Scottish Amateur Music Association. After leaving school Sam studied music at Edinburgh University where he pursued his vocal studies with Margaret Aronson and composition under Kenneth Leighton.

Sam’s operatic career includes the title roles in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Verdi’s Rigoletto, as well as Count Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Cosi Fan Tutte, Papageno Die Zauberflöte, and Escamillio Carmen.

A regular performer in concert, his experience includes works by Handel, Messiah, Bach, Mass in B minor, Mozart, Requiem, Brahms, Ein Deutsches Requiem, Fauré, Requiem, and Rossini, Stabat Mater.

Now resident in Newcastle, Sam is coached by Poppy Holden and has most recently sung the title role in Verdi’s Macbeth with York Opera.

He also teaches singing at Westfield School in Gosforth.

Future plans include singing the role of Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro in April 2010 for West Riding Opera in Leeds.
