SARAH FOX
Born in Yorkshire, Sarah was educated at Giggleswick School and read Music at London University. She went on to study at the Royai College of Music with Margaret Kingsley with scholarships from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Musicans' Benevolent Fund. She was a major prize-winner at the RCM, held the 1997 Thomas Allen Opera Scholarship and was the winner of the 1998 Queen Elizabeth Rose Bowl - one of the College's most prestigious awards.
Already in demand as a recitalist, Sarah made her Wigmore Hall debut with Roger Vignoles in 1998 and her St. John's, Smith Square debut with Malcolm Martineau last year. She has performed several times on Radio 3 including a live lunchtime concert from the Wigmore Hall and recitals of French Song with Piers Lane. Other performances include recitals for the Wigmore Hall's Haydn Trail at St. James' Piccadilly, and St George's Hanover Square; a recital for the Goethe Institute in Glasgow; Schubert's Der Hirt auf dem Felsen with Michael Tilson-Thomas and Andrew Marriner; and recitals in the Windsor festival, the Chelmsford Festival and at Draper's Hall. With the Royal College of Music she performed at the Mozarteum, Salzburg and at the British Embassy in Cairo and also in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales.
Her concert work has taken her to venues throughout the country, most recently Mahler's Fourth Symphony and Mendelssohn's Elijah at Kings College, Cambridge; Handel's Messiah at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Mahler's Eighth Symphony at the Royal Albert Hall. She has performed with many of Britain's leading orchestras, including Mozart's Il re pastore with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Bach's B Minor Mass with the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment both at St. John's, Smith Square; Handel's Messiah with the CBSO at Symphony Hall; and Haydn's The Creation with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. She toured Sweden with The Kings Consort with whom she also recorded Boccherini's Stabat Mater for Hyperion.
Sarah's operatic roles include Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Claudio (Handel's Alessandro Severo) for the RCM; Hyacinthus (Mozart's Apollo et Hyacinthus) and Rosina (La Finta Semplice) for the Classical Opera Company; and Karolka (Jenufa) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) for Glyndebourne.
She has performed with Sir Thomas Allen at an Opera Gala in Mansion House and last December sang Messiah for the Florida Philharmonic.
In 1997 Sarah won the Kathleen Ferrier Award, and in 2000 the Christie Award from Glyndebourne.
Current and future engagements include Frasquita in Carmen in Bermuda, Marzelline (Fidelio) for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, and Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito) for Welsh National Opera.
